STRIPPLE STONES CIRCLE

The Stripple Stones Circle is the only stone circle in Cornwall situated within a henge (circular/ovoid ditch and earth mound). This amazing complex is located on the southern slopes of Hawks Tor and has fantastic views across the moors; including Roughtor and Brown Willy.

The stones within this stunning circle differ substantially from others within Cornwall; with each one shaped uniquely different from one another. A tremendous effort would have gone into the construction of this complex, and it would have appeared an incredible spectacle. It certainly still retains plenty of its magnificence to this day.

The circle is estimated to have originally comprised 27-28 stones. It now has 11 standing and 4 recumbent, including its central monolith set just south of centre; this very large central stone is now broken into 3 pieces. The entrance to the circle is on its SW side and in-line with its nearby neighbour 'The Trippet Stone Circle' (approx 1 mile away); suggesting both sites were connected.
